I remember not being able to use an optical drive on raid channels on my Gigabyte mobo.

Now Im setting up an Asus 7v333 with raid, and I want to use channel 3 for a cdwr. I know I can swap the hdd into it and use 1 or 2 for cdrw,

But what is the difference? I'm curiuos.

ATAPI devices (CD-ROMs) don't work well if ever with RAID controllers (HighPoint, Promise and likes).

i've hear people Sworn that it works on the RAID

i seriously Doubt it

an CD anything, can never be part of an RAID

RAID will not be a RAID if that did happen:x

'cuz it's not an HDD, HDD are the only RAID medias

for a RAID to work, you need a way to write data back to the drives so they know they are part of the RAID

CDROM or even CDRW are Read Only, as far as the RAID controller cares. ;)

Its not advisable to install or add cd writer on raid it with degrade your system performance and cause system to hang plus blue screen , It happened to one my customer, all ready informed them the consequence but they insisted, HA! HA!
