Com Ports

Hi All
My friend has just installed Win 2000 on his PC and every thing has worked ok apart from the fact that no com ports are installed. He noticed this through the device manager as he couldn't understand why his modem would not work. Any help on this would be gratefully recieved. Ie installing the Com ports. Many thanks in advance.

I'd say do these things:
1) if there are no com ports in the system panel of the control panel, reboot and make sure that the com ports are enabled in the bios.

2)If the com port(s) are enabled, go back and make sure that windows 2000 hasn't assigned the IRQ of the com port to another device. You can find the IRQ that the com ports want in the BIOS. If you are not able to free the IRQs that the com port(s) want, you may be able to change thier IRQ - just make sure that you don't bump another device out.
