May I know which Cd burner is the best in terms of performace and price ?
1. PLEXWRITER 12X10X32 CDRW INT ATAPI W/ SW
2. YAMAHA CDRW DRIVE 16X10X40 INT EIDE
3. TDK veloCD 12/10/32
BTY, if Yamaha burner has a 8MB buffer with burn proof technology vs. TDK has 2 MB with BURN-Proof.May I know which one is better ?
Please advise.

I can't say which one is better, I suspect they're all excellent.
My very first burn on my new PlexWriter 12/10/32A was 611MB from 3 different drives, two of which were on the other end of the network using CD Creator 4. I'm totally impressed with the Plextor and BURN-Proof.

Plex and TDK are the same.....
Are you sure the Yamaha has "burnproof?" I thought I had heard otherwise about it.
That 8 meg buffer looks great, but when you're burning at 16x it doesn't take too long to empty it.

I'm not much for off brands and I see TDK as being an off brand. I have not heard that TDK and Plextor are the smae but I am not THAT familiar with that info. In my experience the Plextors have been tops in burning. The Yamaha may not be burn-proof but it is typically a very durable burner. i would probably stay witht he Plextor though, as they are proven.

Yeah, a 2MB buffer only lasts 6 seconds at 2X, so a 8MB buffer only lasts 3 seconds at 16X. Burn-proof is just that, BURN-Proof. If the buffer runs empty, the writer simply stops writing until the buffer is restored. If the buffer goes empty on a non burn-proof writer, you're done because the CD-R requires a continuous flow of data.

when i was going to build i looked into every bit of info i could find on all my gear and for cdrw i chose Plextor for the quality and BURN-PROOF.I think Creative company has a burn-proof burner out so thats somethimg to look into, could be cheaper but less reliable? read as many reviews and user reviews as u can...
The decision process led me to the Plextor 16/10/40. It just arrived and I haven't installed it yet. I look forward to "no more coasters" and the time wasted making them. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
As far as I could determine, the TDK is the same as the Plextor, maybe a different software bundle. The Yamaha is good, but no BURNproof.

Get the plextor burn-proof, frm experiance
my ancient 4x4x16 yamaha that cost me $650 back then burns up the buffer in no time and has spoilt CDs a few times which has forced me to write at a miserable 2x to avoid spoiling CDs

There is an excellent FAQ on CD-R worth visiting at http://www.fadden.com/cdrfaq/
You will find good advice on which models are worth buying from the different manufacturers.

If your going for Software, my vote would be the TDK. I have heard it comes packaged with "Nero". Great software, I've used it before with my "Creative".
Good Luck,

the yamaha is NOT burnproof. thats why it has an 8 mb buffer. i also heard bad reviews about it. some of the more outstanding things i read was that it didnt truly burn at 16x, only towards the outside (end of burn) of the disk. i would recommend the other 2. i have the plextor and my friend has the tdk. they are great burners and very fast.

Why do people like HP burners? Many people at Sysopt have said so. I just used one yesterday and frankly WAS NOT impressed WHATSOEVER (actually I was pissed) at the HP software.
With their softare, you can either (a) make a music cd using MP3s or (b) make a music cd from cd tracks. Of course, using 3rd party software (Music Match) you can make MP3s off of music cds and then do option (a). But only using their software DOES NOT allow you to do this.
That is stupid.

I've got the iomega burn proof 12X writer and I havn't had any problems yet. I've seen my buffer drop down to 0% for a long time and my audio CD still turned out great. It's my first burner and I don't think I'll be making to many coasters with it.
(Although I've heard the reviews on the iomega aren't as good as the HP 12X)

You should maybe go for a Teac drive. I just got mine and have no problems atall. It also has burn-proof. It only cost me $149 for a 12,10,32(model 512EB) drive and it totally rocks. I had a Yamaha 8,4,24ez but it wasnt a very good drive and always burned a coaster and took way too much to get it to burn right. Give it a try its a good deal.
