Hi,

I recently purchased a Creative PCI 512 sound card for my pc (my pc was put together by me out of components purchased separately).

I am running the sound out of the card into a surround sound stereo receiver.

The sound coming out of the card is screwed up.
I get sound in both (right/left) speakers, but it is the same sound (one channel -- NOT STEREO).

I bring up the mixing board (volume control), and everything appears normal; however, after some experimentation, I discovered something.

Sliding the 'BALANCE' fader to the right and left reveals a problem.
Sliding all the way to the LEFT, and everything is OK (well, not quite ok, as I get the LEFT channel out of both speakers). Sliding all the way to the right (so just the right channel should be playing), and I get NOTHING -- silence.

Also, the 'LEFT' channel is what is being output by BOTH SPEAKERS (right, too).

Speakers are connected to sound card correctly.

I have removed card (using Add/Remove hardware), physically removed the card, and then reinstalled card and drivers.
The problem persists.

Any suggestions/ideas/comments????
Another note is that the card 'appeared' to be working correctly before I ran Windows Update (which updated Media Player, among other things).

The reason I say 'appeared' is that I didn't check the balance fader (left/right), the left channel could possibly have been playing through both speakers-- so it may have been that way already.

I noticed the problem playing a CD (music), and didn't hear the guitar part the usually plays on the right channel, which led me to investigate further.

My system is a 1.8 GHz AMD processor with a Radeon 8500 LE vid card, and running Windows XP Pro.

Any information provided would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,
buck slayer

Sounds like a problem with the JACK
of the SB 512

try it with a Stereo Walkman headset or ear plugs

and see if the same happends

Also make sure you have selected 4 SPEAKERS
with CREATIVE mixer 2 Software

let me know if you need to download them again

Yeah twiddling the connector around in the jack can help sometimes with this.. play an Mp3 or sumink while you do it so you can find out when youve got it sweet :)

Well, don't I feel like a jacka$$!

I thought I had it connected correctly (and that maybe something was seriously screwed up), but apparently not.
A little tweaking -- and wha-la.

It seems that after the initial connection was made, it works fine.

thanks a lot!!
:D :t

P.S. This card sounds GREAT!!!

Yah - the PC128 and PC512 are great, forgotten cards. So are the Aureal cards.
