I have just modified my cooling configuration in my tower by adding

Volcano 9 with 80 mm Smart Fan - blowing down on HS
I cut a blowhole (top) for an 80-mm cheap fan- Exhaust
Another Smart fan in the rear- Exhaust
1 cheap Fan in the Front - Intake
The cheap fans do not make much noise nor move much air, but the Smart Fans are running at 5200 rpms and they sing!

I was not really concerned about the noise because the tower is under my desk. I realized that the hot exhaust air was building up under my desk and was being sucked back into the computer. The average temp under my desk was 5-10 degrees higher than the ambient room temp. So I took a 2 foot piece of 6 inch diameter (I think) HVAC flexible hose and taped (duct tape) it to the exhaust in the rear. I then pointed it under and away from the computer. The rpms of the fan are still at 5100-5250 the temp has dropped. It has been 90 here for the past few days- so I will give more accurate temps when the heat wave passes tomorrow.

The other major benefit is that the noise level had dropped considerably-- I no longer can hear the sing of the smart fans. I may need to get more! It is amazing that the sound is muffled that much- but it works.

For some this may not be an option, cause it looks like my computer is hooked up to my Dryer, but is works nicely with little no air flow loss.

I am sure that this is old news to many- but thought it worked out well for me.

)-| I meant to post this under CPU and OCing- can one of the Moderators move this to the appropriate Forum.
Thanks

I have my Dell tower in my desk compartment and most time keep the door closed. The back desk panel has been removed. I monitor the temperature with a TI laying on top of the case.
Dell says no problem as long as this temperature doesn't exceed 90 degrees F.

Our local temp has been in the high 90's most of the summer but has cooled some in the last couple days. :t

Nice job. Next time, save yourself the trouble and but Intel. :p We just received a bunch of Agilent (HP) desktop form-factor Northwood P4s at my "day job" and you can barely hear the darned things! Good custom case design helps.

I truly enjoy the time I spend screwing up my computer- and then fixing it- with your help I must add!

It is not that my system ever goes above 50 C, cause it doesn't --- It's that I want it lower than what ever it is now! The recent outside temps have been in the 90's F, but the heat wave will pass and my Computer will be back at 34-39 C at full bore. So then I will mess with the Bios, or OS OR the video Card. YES- That is what I will Tweak (mess up) next!!! Can I put in a advance warning on the Video Card Forum entitled -- "Xentor On Fire" Run for the Hills!

Thanks for moving the Post!

That idea is good

but i still rather put my Entire computer into a Fridge :D

no noise at all (except for the normal fridge sounds), and perfect cooling

LOL :r

Can you tell me which cpu you got and especially the HSF's spec?

I really like brand name manufacter's pc configuration (dell, compaq, hp, emachine, etc) . They use correct cooling system and low low noise.
