Hi there
I was wondering what is the use of ACPI, besides that it enables you to put your system in suspend mode. Is it useful for desktop PC's?
I also had a slight problem with my PC
When I have ACPI enabled in BIOS my PC couldn't shut down. When I choosed to shut it down I had no "Now it's safe...." screen and immediately it restarted. Now that I have disabled ACPI all seem to work normal. Oh by the way I am still using AT power supply.
Thanks for the answers

It's more trouble than it's worth, IMHO. Use CPUCool, CPUIdle, or Rain to save CPU power & turn your monitor off @ nite.

Your problem lies in the power supply. AT PS are not compatible with ACPI, I dual boot with Win98 and Win2K using ATX PS. No problems.

Unfortunalty ACPI looks good on paper but it's implimentation has been more headaches for endusers. I've got friends (myself included) with ATX PS's that ACPI still sucks on so don't feel alone! The main problem lies in the fact that every single freakin component you've got in your computer has to support ACPI but not every component maker has accepted the standards of ACPI and therefore doesn't build with regard to it, so.............. yeah, you get the picture- enduser like yourself asking what the heck is this junk good for except non-upgradable OEM machines..

Phecky's right, and the fact that it used to work means little -- it's so flakey that it's always on the edge of screwing up, and takes nothing to push it there.

Thanks for the answers....
I will just have it disabled in BIOS setup
BTW, it worked fine for about 6 months with AT power supply, and I could get the system to suspend mode.... Pretty useless ......
Just power it down.....
