I knows this has been discussed before but would like to raise the issue again.
Is it better on the pieces and parts to leave your system on 24/7 or just turn it on and off as needed. I have use for mine maybe 2-3 hours each night and thats about it. The one I use at work has been on 24/7 for the last 3 years and it seems to works just fine, with an occasional reboot. If you have extra fans installed this was tend to keep the system cooler if it did stay 24/7. Now is it true that it puts more stress on the pieces and parts at boot up verse just keeping it running all the time.

Looking foward to some good professional answers.

Thanks

Save energy

The mobo circuits have been improved since the dark ages of computers and now do not crack solder joints from thermal cycling.

Think Black and White.

Join our RC5 efforts and leave the system on and in use 24/7.

I leave all mine on. It is better for some hardware to stay on but the power supply will die a bit sooner.

I usually leave mine on, but I have the monitor shut off after ten minutes of being idle.

If I leave for the weekend I will shut the system down.
As soon as I get some better cooling I will get back to cracking RC5. I have been slacking lately. Sorry team http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

I'll be going to my room now *hangs head*

I normally leave my on..Except a couple nights a week where i shut it down, of course i restart as needed..
If i go away, i will shut it down..
Better cooling still wouldn't hurt http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Electrical things can cause electrical problems, like burn down your house! The only electrical things that run when I'm away are my refrigerator and clocks!

i have three systems and tend to leave em on all the time...
if i do shutdown i leave my win2k server/NAT box up to hold my dynamic ip on roadrunner (ive only had 3 ips in 9 months and the changes happened during service outages)
to conserver on electricity i rarely use any other powered things besides a/c and refrigerator (need the ac to maintain that constant 72 degrees f)

I just built a new 1 gig system that i have not shut off sence we put it together. I dont know if the correct way, but who cares. Buy the time the parts fall apart they will be outdated anyways.
