AllGamer 09-09-2002, 02:19 PM no Mobo and if you want RAID 5 http://www.acnc.com/04_01_05.html you'll need a pretty expensive SCSI RAID controller to do the trick cuz you need 5 HDD at the least , and no EIDE mobo or add on card, can handle this. well it's 3, but you want the other 2 to swap and be there in case Malice 09-09-2002, 02:32 PM Originally posted by AllGamer no Mobo and if you want RAID 5 http://www.acnc.com/04_01_05.html you'll need a pretty expensive SCSI RAID controller to do the trick cuz you need 5 HDD at the least , and no EIDE mobo or add on card, can handle this. well it's 3, but you want the other 2 to swap and be there in case I know all about RAID 5 just didnt know if there was a RAID 5 motherboard for IDE system yet... AllGamer 09-09-2002, 03:09 PM i doubt there will ever be one until the EIDE can go over 4 devices in 1 controller jmichna 09-09-2002, 08:22 PM Originally posted by AllGamer no Mobo and if you want RAID 5 http://www.acnc.com/04_01_05.html you'll need a pretty expensive SCSI RAID controller to do the trick cuz you need 5 HDD at the least , and no EIDE mobo or add on card, can handle this. well it's 3, but you want the other 2 to swap and be there in case 3Ware's Escalade (http://www.3ware.com/products/parallel_ata.asp) is an IDE RAID controller that can handle RAID-5: "Escalade™ 7500 Series Ultra ATA/133 interface 64-bit PCI technology Support up to 12-drives through independent non-blocking switch ports RAID 0, 1, 10, 5 and JBOD 64-bit ASIC design with fast on-board microprocessor Hot swap and hot spare capability Greater than 180MB/sec on reads Greater than 127MB/sec on writes Delivers ultimate RAID 5 performance ( * not available on 7000-2 )" 3Ware has an excellent reputation among IDE RAID devices. jmichna AllGamer 09-09-2002, 08:51 PM Ahh i c it's very new, thanks for the link good ATA-133 yeah just my last review of EIDE RAID cards did not show this baby up, nice but i bet it cost quite a bit if i'm not mistaken the 12 drives support one will go for around $1000 yup close after some search in google all review are dated around July and Aug of this year **** hot right off the oven man and the price i was close $700 on the street Awesome a nice kick *** againts SCSI systems now this is Economical and Reliable perfect for those Removable 5.25 bays for HDDs :D jmichna 09-09-2002, 10:06 PM A.G... The next system I build (for me ;) ) will definitely use an Escalade, but probably the min controller that will permit either RAID 0+1, or RAID 5... but that's a ways off... I just redid my pc and my daughter's pc a couple months ago, and wifey will brain me if I spend any more $$$ on this stuff now. I'm just patiently waiting, watching the IDE HD prices, the 3Ware prices, the KT400 chipset mobos (can't wait to see what EPoX delivers... gotta be a real OCing screamer), the XP2800+ release/price, etc., etc. jmichna SysOpt.com
