Hi,
Can anyone shed a little light on the problem that since I installed this nework card it takes forever to boot ?
I use Win98 2nd edition.
I don't leave my computer on so it's really becoming a pain.....My sons computer does the same ..we have a hub connecting them.
Thanks

I can't explain why but I have the same experience. I always figured it had something to do with synchronization.

Try using a bootlog analyser (try searching for it) to know exactly where the problem is.
Try also to boot withount the cable physically connected; sometimes it could help.
Let me know.
Bye now,

Are you using Static IP or DHCP?
If you are using the DHCP feature and you do not have a DHCP server the NIC(Network Interface Card) is broadcasting to receive an IP address from a DHCP server that is not there. What the NIC does upon startup is try to contact a DHCP server with a request for an IP address, if memory serves me correct it will attempt this request 3 times(ie. part of the problem with the longer start-up you are experiencing). When it recieves no response it broadcasts a request for APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing) it sends out a broadcast saying does anyone have 169.254.x.x the x's representing what node it will be on the network. Again I believe it broadcasts this 3 times as well until it confirms no other node is using this address (more startup time).
If you are using DHCP and have no need to you might want to assign a static IP to your NIC's using private network IP 192.168.0.x the x will identify your machine as a node on the 192.168.0 network. In short your machine is 192.168.0.1 and his machine is 192.168.0.2 both using Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Hope this helps speed things up please reply if this was helpful or if you have any further questions.
