Gobi 09-09-2002, 04:10 AM Hi there! Yes, its possible to get a free linux version for your computer. It almost always requires a download, cause one of the way linux companies makes money is to sell cd's with the OS on. (The payment is for the effort they have to make a install cd for you). If you like a free version of Linux, just search for "download linux" on any searchengine (like www.alltheweb.com) or try this link: http://www.linux-download-cds.com/?pg=downloads it has Mandrake, Redhat and Suse. (Three of the best there is). (The download is full ISO images ready to be burned on cd's). Yepp, hope this will help. Gobi. omega31 09-09-2002, 08:37 PM Try this: http://www.linuxiso.org/ You can download ISOs for a good number of Linux distributions. AllGamer 09-09-2002, 08:44 PM about 99% of Any LINUX Distro are FREE, as long as you download them on your own. and learn to set it up without calling their Tech Support #s so if you have any questions come back here or search in Google, or any Linux help place :t Aznmask 09-16-2002, 02:28 PM Isn't WIndows XP better than Linux.. ? Good against viruses, I guess. AllGamer 09-16-2002, 07:27 PM Also it gets you away from Bill Gay grasps ;) AndyWhitt 09-18-2002, 05:34 AM Slackware is one of the hardest version of linux to get your head round. would recommend Red Hat 7.3!!! Andy Cool Chip Computers Forum (http://www.coolchip-computers.co.uk/theshed/) AllGamer 09-18-2002, 09:38 AM that's correct, if you want to follow the standard go for RED HAT, that's what the hardware/software industry uses as a template to make Linux stuff :t AltatemTC 09-18-2002, 11:31 AM I use Mandrake Linux and am pretty ignorant concerning Linux. What I will tell you is that I downloaded Mandrake and within 2 hours had a system up and running. I didn't have to search for a single driver, it loaded and ran. For a newbie this is great. Dave Myers 09-18-2002, 02:48 PM I want to DL linux and start learning how to survive off of the MS tit. I am concerned on the learning curve, and software compatibility. What ISP's offer Linux compatible software? How many games outside of ID actually support linux?
