Hi, there

I would like to do an update to my system consisting at this moment in:
MB Acorp 6VIA85P, Via Apollo Pro 133 chipset
CPU Celeron 466MHz

Can I use an FCPGA Celeron 1.0-1.1GHz? The multiplier-set throu jumpers-is max 8.0x (acording to the manual).

If a BIOS upgrade is needed, I found on the Acorp's site 2 files for this MB model. I took a look at them (with biosview.exe) and I saw the following BIOS strings: 2A6LGX3P, respectively 2A6LGX3K while my MB's BIOS string is 2A6LGX3EC. Are they compatible?

Thanks

A BIOS update cannot give you Tualatin capability. The voltage and pinout is different. You could get a Powerleap upgrade though:

www.powerleap.com

Good stuff and includes the CPU.

Hi,

I was thinking actually on a Celeron2 (Coppermine core) that goes up to 1.1 GHz (100 MHz FSB). According to the manual on my MB the multiplier can be set up to 8.0. That means that a 1.1 G Celeron cannot work? Do I really need an BIOS upgrade?

Thanks

Intels are multiplier locked. If the voltage is right, it should work. I have seen this fail though. A BIOS update is recommended. Check the notes to see which CPU the updates support.

I believe Bill is on the nose on this one. Many of the older motherboards don't support the required core voltage amount of 1.5 to 1.75 for the FCPGA Celerons. Your other limiting factor would be your max multiplier of 8.0. Sounds like that might limit your Celeron 2 options to the 800 Mhz.
But after looking at acorp's web site, they clearly show support for up to Celeron 1.2 gig 100 fsb, so they should work, but you may have to flash to the latest BIOS to make it work. Good luck.
