Having a probelm with win 2k install process...
I havent had to repair or install in a while so the other day when i went to run repair after a f**kup of biblical proportions, i loaded in my RAID drivers and what not... so far so good... windows 2000 is starting... and then *BLAM* it all goes black.. and the power LED stays on but nothing happens...
The only obvious thing that jumps up and bites me on the buns is that ive upgraded my gfx card from a gf2mx400 to a gf4ti4200 since the last time i repaired/installed... but surely this shouldnt cause problems...
Help on this would be appreciated as i dont wanna be left unable to reinstall windows if it all goes belly up in the future

Try VGA mode if you can get in. When in there, remove the old NV drivers and install the new.
It's a video issue all right. :(

...so before installing/repairing windows... boot up, change system drivers from the dets back to Standard VGA for the sake of the install... then reboot and run the install proc yeah??
--Cheers Bill... as usual you've done the biz for me :)

You could also try the Detonator Destroyer:

Luck, Jakk!

Thing is the problem arises during the DOS install process... i set up the RAID drivers... windows disc then uploads the other drivers and says windows 2000 starting... what shoudl come next is the installation selection screen, Install - Repair etc etc... however it doesnt.. it just goes blank... would this really be down to the nvidia display devices as this is all taking place from "DOS" if you will... not within the windows environment...
Cheers

It sounds like a vid card or CPU heat problem. Text-mode setup doesn't switch video modes and doesn't require drivers.

hmmnn odd... dont think its down to CPU heat and the Vid's okay as regards everything else... odd...

I doubt that's the case since your old GF2 was working fine.
have you tried re-installing windows from the CD using the 2nd Repair option?

thats the thing it doesnt even GET to the option screen for repair/install etc... it hangs JUST after its loaded up the different drivers from the CD and says Starting Windows 2000 installation...
HOWEVER!!

it Could be
but i doubt that's the case also
Did you load the RAID drivers by going [F6] ?
try resetting the ESCD in the BIOS
also try resetting BIOS to default and try the re-pair process again, see if that helps.
i had a few cases that WinNT will not install until i resetted my BIOS
so it's something to try
