hey,thank's a lot fellows!!:)
I have the latest video driver and Direct X 8.1 and I am still having the same problem, can not go more than 20% of the installation, it just stops death:( .
I am having the same errors in my pc with ASUS P4T533-c ,P4 2.2 and ELSA gforce2 ultra, but I red somewhere ( I do nor remember where by now, sorry)MS recognize a problem between ASUS mobos and nvidia or something like that.
I had initially a error # 36 loading the gme at 44% in both computers and now at 20% I am having in both pc's , "set up encountered a disk error while writing to the file D:|program files\Microsoft games\MW4 vengeance\missing..\Bigcity.nfo "
 now....what??
cheeeeeeeeeers!!!!!!!!!!

Is this an original/retail version of the game??
some people I know use mechwarrior 3 with the asus p4 mainboardand the gf2ti and have no problems!

we know you have them
but you have to RE-INSTALL them again.
that will fix anything that has gone wrong.
as for the game same thing
the error message you are getting clearly indicates that file is no good.
just reinstall the game
the nVidia Drivers
and the direct x 8.1-b

"Symptoms
When you are trying to install Microsoft Train Simulator, you may receive the following error message:
Train Simulator Setup encountered a disk error while writing to the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\dialog.dll. Make sure your hard disk is not full and the file is not in use.
Cause
This behavior can occur if a previous installation was interrupted and the original Train Simulator folder is still present on the system. "
This is what both pc's are showing at 20%, except for the last two entries....\MW4\bigcity.nfo. Probably we have the previous installation hiding somewhere in the system
 but.....where??
There is no folder at C: refering to mechwarrior 4, so....any ideas where I can look at? any pre..prefolder for installation or something simmilar, but where??
cheers!!

It's a game problem. I bought that game a few months ago, and the install was sluggish (like music freezing...).
It was the media itself that was damaged.
