I have an old computer which I just put 98 SE on. Every time I try to connect to net error 630"the modem is not responding properly". I have done everything MS troubleshooting told me to do. It is just standard 2400 modem. Very old computer Emachine 1998. I do not know the manufacturer. I have un AND re- installed! Should I just buy a new one? My phone works out of the other hole...if that matters!

Dissable both On board Com1 and Com2 in your Mobo BIOS
then set your 2400 caveman modem to use either Com 1 with IRQ 4 or Com 2 with IRQ 3 :t

during the boot up screen
as soon as you turn on the computer
just hit DEL or F10 depends
and then you get to go into the BIOS screen
once in the BIOS screen locate the Com 1 and Com 2
now you can dissable them
as for the jumpers in the modem
you'll need to find the proper jumper info
Do you know what Mobo you have?
also which brand is your 2400 modem? and model # plz :t
