Jack, there are 2 litte black side by side jumpers on the jp2& jp3 pins//////to enable the onboard amp. move both jumper caps to the pins that are closest to the joystick port. NOTE: only do this if you have NON powered speakers.

i went to the site and looked at the manuel and then put the jumpers on right...it works!
not a bad card at all for what i payed for it =] thxs slydog

i bought a Sb 16 pci for my dads comp the other day and installed the "latest" driver for it but there is hardly any volume. every volume control is up to max and u can barely hear it. anyone have this card and problem? any suggestions as to a fix?running WinME

Jack, if you have unpowered speakers you will have to move the jumpers on the sb16 to enable the built in amp.(see the back few pages of the boolet that came with it or go to their web site.
