PLEASE HELP URGENT

after installing my new geforce 4600 after busting my old one i installed win xp home edition! everything is great everything works! except one thing (well several)
a> Windows update doesnt find any updates
b> the register your account with a .net username and password cant find a internet connection
c> windows activation couldnt find an internet connection

now i am connected to the internet! i click windows update and the sites comes up and i install the new update engine! i click update and there is nothing
automatic update is off! i have not reveived one update (checked the update history)

i did activate windows over the phone!
i am on the net (like now)

WHAT THE F*** IS MICROSOFT ON ABOUT!!!
help please

its a problem not being able to get connected to MS?
first of all, i wouldnt get the .net passport, its a hacker infested cesspool (new security leaks are constantly found)

and updates really arent all that critical cuz most of them are security ones, if you have dial-up, just following a good edicit and you will be fine, (mainly, dont open mail from ppl you dont know, dont use outlook, gator,and other ones that ppl dont tell you to, and d/l ad-aware)

and if you have broadband, follow the same edicit as dial-up, and then be sure you have a good up-to-date firewall (i hear zone-alarm is really good)

Do this, and chances of getting a virus or hacked is really slim, still possible, o yes, but not likely.
