Not free, but shareware ($8). 30 day trial. This thing WORKS and is the best. Usually, the free pop up ad killers have to be "trained". This one will kill by default (if set to do so).

But also, sometimes you need the pop ups as the links are actually seen as pop ups. Just use the right mouse to enable/disable at given sites!
