Hi All

What I would like to be able to do is assign a printer to be installed automatically on variouse machines when they are switched on.

The printers are all installed on a print server and are all published in active directory but how can I assign a printer to be installed on a machine when it is swiotched on, rather than going round and manually doing it ?

i.e. tech-laser installed in tech rooms, Geog-laser installed in geography rooms etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

You should look for con2prt.exe in the zero administration kit for winnt/2k. you'll need to copy con2prt to each workstation (you can do this from a login script). then create a login script for each group with the proper printer assignments. you can also choose a default printer. This is by user not computer, but I suspect that most users will use a certain computer and not roam around. You could add all the printers to the login script and just have the users choose the printer they want to use. At least it's a start. :)
