I recently ordered a new machine. I'll be running Win2k. I would like to know of a good way to tranfer 6 years of files from the old machine (running win95). Can i do it using two NICs as was suggested to another member recently? Whats that direct cable connection all about? What the easiest/fastest way?

The easiest way is a direct file transfer. You put both of the hard drives into one computer, and then you copy all the data that you need directly to and from the hard drives.
You could network the machines and copy files over the network, but that would take a long time unless you have a full 100base network. 10base networks would guarantee you a long wait.
And don't even think about transfering much of any data over a Direct Cable Connection, I remember what the speed was like when I had one between my comp and a laptop. Even a 2 player game of Starcraft was laggy!!! I remember it took nearly a day to transfer a 300mb folder over the cable. Stay away from this at all costs.
If I were you I would to the HD to HD file copy, no additional equiptment needed and it is the fastest way to do it. All that it requires is a bit of computer skills to set up the Hard drives.
I hope that helped!

If you already have NICs in the machines, you'll be well served by setting up a network, if even if you don't, having a permanent network connection between the machines is a good investment IMO.
Setting up NetBeui and fill sharing is really easy and will transfer 100MB+ per minute on a 10/100 network.
If you're taking the Win95 machine out of service, you might want to just put the old hdd in the new machine to transfer the files.
