I recently built a AMD 1gig/K7 raid/256mbr/60 gig hd. 2000K professional I connect to the internet with a dial up cable modem because we do not have the two way yet. I make it dial *70 before the dial up so that if someone calls is goes straight into my voicemail. My cable is randomly disconnecting from the internet and I don't know why. Sometimes when I'm playing Counterstrike and sometimes when I'm just surfing? Any one got any ideas? (I had the same problem with my AMD500)

Have you checked your dial-up line for line noise?

When I used to have dial-up.. i went through a period where I was disconnected all the time.. turned out my line had a lot of static and they had to fix it.. (someone reversed the wire pair at the local switch box heh)

an easy way to tell is just pick up the phone at a dial tone and listen for static.. if you can hear any then it'll be a problem..

Also, hit a number on the keypad to shut off dial tone to listen for noise.

Dial up.

Were I live in Maryland Comcast is putting in new digitial lines everywere. Mine was supposed to be finished last year, but you know how this works. They promise and promise. So with the old line you can download real fast, but your upload is very slow because you have to connect with you phone line. (56K) You can stay connected, but you line is tied up. Mine keeps kicking me randomly off.

Hi, im a little confused concerning this 'dial-up', i thought cable modems allowed for a network connection (i.e one is online *** soon as the comp is on, no need to dial-up), at least thats the way all my friends here (austria) have it (no phone line action here).

On the other hand i have adsl, and i have to dial-up (phone line action here).

?.

from the sound of it. It sound like you just have a regular phone connection. either that or DSL. Cable modems does not deal with the phone lines period. But with dsl isn't the upload faster than the d/l?? I would call up your internet provider and get the specifics on whats going on.

a lot of people have one way dl cable with the up being dial up. It operates the same as a satellite connection with the uplink on the phone line,

for me since its half price of a 2 way cable the discount pays for my second phone line so I will keep it as preferred since I don't have a big need for high speed uploads.

That's the same connection I have Telco upstream Cable downstream. It's not bad...but uploads SUCK!!!!! The new equipment is suppose to be in soon and then we'll get "two-way" service...but the price won't change http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks guys, I know comcast will not do anything for line noise. I'll just have to wait till the two way is up. The sooner the better.
