after 3 grueling months of trying to fix this 1500$ PC, i have won. i lost all hope, then i realized there was still hope left.i won. i prevailed. i lost my OS xp number. ater getting my PC fixed, i realized i had lost the number. defeat? no way. i simply bought a new copy:) IM SOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!

or do you mean you lost the Activation?
if that was the case you could have just re-activated it again, without buying a new one.

Also, rather than buying a whole new copy...you could've just bought a new license instead. Would have been much cheaper.

I'm happy you're happy, but did you try to call MS, and while speaking with a human, explained the situation to see what they could do for you? If you had regsitered/activated the S/W prior, they probably could have come to some solution short of buying a new license.

I know hind-sight is always 20-20, but still....

I don't know about XP but in other versions of windows the product key code is imbedded in the registry. I have the means and ways to find it somewhere on my rig. ;)
