Well, I kinda did something to my machine last night. First off, I decided to OC the graphics card (msi geforce4 4400) to 290/598, which actually worked out okay ~ till I restarted my machine.

When I restarted, I got an error stating that a critical boot file was missing and I would have to use the WindowsXP recovery consol to repair it. When I put in the disc and got to the recovery portion of XP, it asked me what drive I wanted to repair. So, I put in C ~ nothing ~ so, I put in C, Enter, and then it goes to C:\>Windows. So, I put in a number "1", enter, and I get the C prompt again...

Anyway, I finally just said screw it and I reformated everything ~ This time with a partition. I made my C: Drive 29Gb, and I made my D: Drive 10GB. After I formated my c: drive to NFTS, it prompted me to do the same to the d: drive as well ~ And then it proceeded to install my windows system on my D: drive.

Now, I have all my critical files on the D: drive, and then I'm saving all my games and stuff on my C: drive, when I wanted it the other way around. I have the Page filing coming off of the C: drive, the drive with 29gb of space, vs what I wanted on the d: drive.

Basically, everything feels really assbackwards to me right now ~ is there anything I can do to fix this, short of reformatting again? If something in the software fails again, will I have to reformat the C: drive, or just fix what ever is wrong with the D: drive? I am sooooooooooo sick of losing saved games like NWN, MOHAA, Starcraft, etc...

Yikes...

hmm... nope not easy way when you are dealing with NTFS partitions.

yes you'll have to re create the partitions again, to then re format, and then re install

the NEXT TIME you install MAKE 100% SURE which is the Parition you want to have Windows Installed ON :D

i know that has happend to me before.

SO Don't Lazy out, READ ALL THE SCREENS, don't just go on Clicking Next next next next next .... ;) enter enter enter enter... :p or if you are a mouse person click click clikc clikc click ... :x

Just a note, most of these games have save files that you can backup. Look in the games folder, you'll usually find another folder called save, backup everything in it, and you won't lose your characters anymore.

does it really matter which drive you have all your windows information saved on? being that it's on D:, and I only have 10gb of space on there, would I run out of space ~ I will be saving everything on the c: drive...

And, which drive should i have the page filing on? d: with the windows stuff, or c: with the games and stuff?

gah, this really sucks, but so does reformatting ~ reformatting is like grinding glass between your teeth, while having a cat nead his paws on your balls

just a little side note. putting the page file on a separate partition on the same drive isn't going to help much. you should create a second page file on a second physical drive to get a performance boost. :)

yes, you can format just the system partition and it will preserve the files on the second partition.

or an Even BETTER thing is to use a RAM Drive !!

yup, if you have enough RAM, set up a RAM drive of 200 meg, and that will make your windoze fly.

make a RAM drive and put the page file to use the RAM drive.

;)
