Kurylo 08-27-2002, 01:27 PM Can I manage to insert the DOS commands to the address line of the Explorer Window (as in Windows Commander) like here: AllGamer 08-27-2002, 01:44 PM Yes and No yes it works, that's how viruses fool the OS to run them but not if you have appried the patches, and have an AV software running. there are several KBs on M$ web$ite that explains that, and how to fix it. Bigjakkstaffa 08-27-2002, 02:23 PM I just typed that into explorer (with some variation) and i got a "file cannot be found..." message... --Jakk:t itismike 08-27-2002, 07:05 PM This is not meant as a racial comment, but AllGamer, what's up with the l's? Is it a keyboard malfunction? That's the second one today that seemed like your impersonating someone with a heavy middle-eastern accent.:) -Mike Bigjakkstaffa 08-28-2002, 07:33 AM ^^^ I dont understand what mikes saying  --Jakk:t jmichna 08-28-2002, 09:13 AM Originally posted by itismike This is not meant as a racial comment, but AllGamer, what's up with the l's? BUT GUESS WHAT?? it works if you have it at the bottom of the screen by that i mean you can do a right click add Address bar now you can type whatever you want there. but as long as you don't type a webaddress then it wont accept local commands anymore Yet another glitch of M$ OS :D Kurylo 08-28-2002, 06:06 PM Yes, I understand that I can work from a CMD window, but it is unsuitable. Why can't I write such commands: If Windows don't see a file typed (it thinks that all of this is a file), it changes its mind and thinks that it is a WEB-address... I think MS (and we) lost very much without implementerd well-known and functional commands. I think that in some cases Window's GUI is not good to operate with files (for example, ren *.wsz *.zip). I agree that's a big MS glitch - so, Windows Commander (or Wiundows Navigator rather) - welcome to my PC!!! Bigjakkstaffa 08-28-2002, 06:15 PM Hmmmn interesting stuff... although i say you cant beat the command prompt :p i remember Bigjakkstaffa having as similar joke about it on his own writiing You mean like when i say axed in said of asked, zigackly instead of exactly and congradjemalations instead of congradulations etc etc?? --They come through force of habit - i actually use them in day to day conversation  --Jakk:t itismike 08-28-2002, 10:47 PM LMAO!! I'd need a little time to adjust to the new vocabulary. :D -Mike danee 08-29-2002, 03:49 AM Originally posted by Bigjakkstaffa Hmmmn interesting stuff... although i say you cant beat the command prompt :p The only MS product I never had a hassle in using.. and want them to bring it back.. MS DOS. I always loved the command prompt usage on the PC for 1 simple fact... it seperated those who actually knew something, from those who didnt. Instead now, every 2nd person in the world "claims" they are an expert in Windows... why ?? because they know how to open a file, whereas in DOS they couldnt... pure and simple. Thanks MS, you made every dick think their a computing professional. Kurylo 08-29-2002, 02:16 PM At last, after a five minutes of explanations, every person, even the dumbiest pot will be an expert in Windows... ;) jmichna 08-29-2002, 04:07 PM Originally posted by danee The only MS product I never had a hassle in using.. and want them to bring it back.. If we were still running DOS (and I favored DR-DOS, myself), then a 386SX/16mHz with 2-4mb ram would be all the pc we'd need to run any game or proggy we had, and even the vid cards would be midget-like... so then what would we do with all the out-of-work programmers and H/W designers???? JK...JK.... :t I actually liked W3.0/3.1 + DR-DOS + QEMM... Like you said, needed to know your stuff, writing batch files to do what you wanted was always a challenge, because the tools were so limited. Run DOS most of the time, Win when you needed/felt like it, and bragged about how you tweaked memory management to get another 1-2K of conventional memory... and boy.. if you could free up 631k with DR-DOS... you really knew your stuff! It was fun... ;) :p ;) SysOpt.com
