word 97 spell check broken

Sorry if this is not the right place to post this question but i'm stuck.
I just installed office97 which includes word97. When you go to the tools menu/options/spelling & grammer, the spelling checker options are all grayed out.
I installed this software on 3 win98 machines, and 2 of the three dont allow spell checker.
If this is not the right place to post please let me know the proper place

Hi,
Did you install the full version of Office. A couple of years ago I did an install on a amchine that was nearly out of HD Space so I did a custom install and only installed Word and Excel. I found out later that spell check and the dictionary was one of those partly checked boxes that I had clicked on not to install. I bit the bullet and uninstalled what I had installed and installed the standard installation option and got everything
