ouch,35gbs could really hurt the pocketbook.i sure hope he doesnt have any upload caps.check this out, my policy is 1 gig up a month.anything thereafter is $5 for 128megs.if it is the same there.could be a bitter event.6 months ago my isp actually sent out a newsletter reguarding this fact.seems some teens were just hitting the close x.and we all know it doesnt exit the program there..must have been some hefty bills..so does u.s services have upload caps?

For right now, I've found AudioGalaxy to be the best service available with decent download speeds. Get an account and check it out:

BTW, Scour will be reopening sometime in early Q2. I am supposedly on the bets test list, however, I am still waiting for my software package to arrive.

Gnutella. If you haven't check out Gnutella lately, it's now a PROTOCOL as well as a program. Different people have taken the original Gnutella program and have made it more user friendly with automatic connection.

Two of real interest may be BEAR SHARE and Newtella. Gnutella protocol doesn't limit itself to MP3s, but will transfer any digital file. But that means, when you accept other types of files, you may be leaving yourself open to a virus.

But Newtella limits itself to MP3s. That's a bit safter. But Bear Share is the hot Gnutella program right now. I still use the original.

Gnutella programs are a bit slower to get kick started than Napster. If you can't get the first connection type (w/o quotes) "www.gnutellahosts.com" in the connection box. It'll give you the first connection.

Gnutella has no central server. There is no company named Gnutella. The starter computers appear to be out of the reach of US Courts!

Thanks for the link Rob. I got good speed at scour, but the broken links were a bit too much for me.

Here in this pathetic country, Austria (looking at it from the business and commerce and consumer advantages side), we have a download cap, I have an adsl connection with a company called Austria Online and these blood suckers will charge me if I dl more than a gig per month !.

Another company called chello offers unlimited dl but they don't have the service in my area, dang !.

Now to get back to the topic, I have heard about gnutella, don't know anything about it, I hope its as good as napster.

KKF.

I really dislike Gnutella. (Never really figured out how it worked.
Also Scour isn't my favorite since about 90% of the files I downloaded were bad (or empty!!!!) if they dl at all!!

Aren'T there any better alternatives?

Exactly struggles....you guys scared me so much that I went on Napster to check it out....don't do that again!

FYI, Gnutella sucks.

About 1 in 30 or so downloads actually download. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

I like a combo of FileNavigator in conjunction with Napigator where I can add as many servers as I want. At present I have 10 servers that I pull trax from. Im also glad to hear Scour is returning from the grave.

Why are people saying that Napster is "down" It hasn't been down for me anyway. You people are starting to scare me. Anyway, about the actualy question, I DLed Napigator when the first scare came out about napster going down, when they first got sued. I used it a little, it's a little more time consuming but it works for me, I'm on a dial-up anyway, so the limited DL potential doesn't hurt me too much, since i have to try about 5 times on a song till i find someone on remote active, or that won't cancel me because i'm downloading from them at like 1-3 k/sec
