Hi everybody!
I need to find a good EXTERNAL cd-rw. I want to go USB since the system is too limited slot-wise to go SCSI. Problem is I do not know what brands are good for external burners.

Of the ones I see, Acer, Mitsumi make ones in my price range with HP just outside my range. Any ideas?
Thanks
Dave

I'd check CNet/PC Magazine/etc. reviews for their lastest opinions. I don't know this for fact, but I've heard nothing but bad about Acer...they may have improved, but I certainly check those reviews.

dude, right now you pay more for an external burner and you get less speed....personally if you get a burn proof burner i dont think it would really mattter if it was on SCSI or just regular IDE, i would suggest a 12x tdk with burn proof and u can pick one up for $200. mine works great and your really cant beat 6 mins a cd with no errors while doing anything you want on your computer during the burning!
An external USB is nothing more than an internal IDE stuck inside a box. The unit can actually be removed an installed as an internal IDE. My undestanding is that a USB can't really work faster than 4x in any case. I have a 4x internal Mitsumi that has been completel reliable.
Externals are there own animal though. If you MUST have an external and will be using it with a desktop, I'd pop for a FIREWIRE setup!
