Ok here is the deal. I tried a simple mem upgrade, after installing the new mem sticks apon power up the comp just beeps at me constantly. Just one long beep...Pause and beep again, repeat till insanity. Of corse I checked to see if the sticks were seated right. they were. Pulled out the new sticks and replaced with original stick configuration, power on same thing. any suggestions for me?

What brand of BIOS do you have? The beeping is a code to tell you what precisely the problem is but different brands of BIOS use different codes.
Any chance you dislodged your vid card or CPU while you were working on the memory? This could also cause the PC to fail to post.
Try putting one stick only of your old RAM in the first RAM slot. If this fails move it to another slot.

OK the soultion to this, according to sysopt BIOS page, is to re-set the RAM. Try a different stick, 1 only, known good, try it in different slots. Try blowing out the RAM slot, sometimes they get dusty.
How old is this PC and what are it's specs?

Ok blew out the slots and moved one stick around. Ok it comes on now but with no beeps and no display.

Hmmm . . .does the HD light come on and flash on and off?

no the HD does not spin up and the led for the HD does not come on.
However when I get the System beep the HD does come on

I assume the power light does come on and you have waited a few moments, maybe a few more, for a beep code?
I would re-set the BIOS. If this fails I would take out everything except CPU, 1 good DIMM stick and a known good vid card. Check all connections and try again.
But it may be too early to do all that just yet. Try the BIOS re-set.

Just saw your edit. If you get a system beep and HD activity it sure sounds like the video is just not conected to the monitor.

pulled the batt out and swapped the jumpers over. Put the batt back in and reswapped the jumpers. Same thing.
It time for me to get a new mobo?

kinda sounds like it. But, I'd take it all apart and put it back barebones, known-good before I get new board. I would have only known-good vid card, 1 RAM and CPU - no HD, or floopy or any other cards. Blow it all off and pray.

That was the first thing I tried.
I didn't think that a mem upgrade could smoke my board but apparently so. even made sure that the mem card was compatable with my system before installing. Oh well was planing on upgrading to a P4 anyway.

well, you got a good excuse now! Have fun.
Maybe you cracked the board pushing in the RAM? Just an idea.
