I just built a new pc using the Codegen S-101 server tower. This tower came with a redundant power supply (really cool looking), but I'm going to be running so much cooling hardware in there, I would rather run my cooling components from a second power supply to maintain proper power flow.
Does anyone know how to make a power supply work on components in the case without it being connected to the motherboard?

thanks.

Depending on the PSU, some have safety features some don't

the kinds that don't will power up regardless.

so for those you can Rigg up your Reset button as a 2nd power button for the 2nd PSU, and power your other stuff with it

An old AT power supply uses it's own power switch. They're easy to find and cheap.

Find an external scsi two cd-rom case. Grab the power supply out of it. It has a couple of molex plugs on it and they are rated for around 200 to 300 watts depends on who makes them. It also has a switch you can mount into a case and a power plug in. Just mod the back of your case for the new switch and power plug. These cases go for around $25 or less shipped on ebay.

Power supply size is 6 1/4" long > 2 3/8" wide >3 3/4" tall

Power switch takes a 7/8" x 7/8" square hole

Power plug takes a 1 1/8" x 1 rectangle hole

Plus the external case sould have a 3 1/5" fan already in it.

If you want to see some pic's of one let me know. I have one open to get the sizes for you. These little power supplys have good mod potental.
