No problems. Have an 18 month old TBird 1.2/200 OC'ed to 1.4/266, also used as gaming machine plus running Seti@Home command line client 24/7... no problems. Current pcs include an XP2100+ OC'ed to XP2200+ (1817mHz @ 139mHz FSB) and a P4 1.6A @ 2.134gHz (133mHz FSB). Both run Seti command line client 24/7. Bottom line is a properly cooled OC'ed CPU should last to -- at least -- its obsolesence point, where you would want to replace it anyway. That's JMHO. jmichna AllGamer 08-23-2002, 10:24 AM Originally posted by fluffycow How long do they last if clocked a few mhz from max with some decent air cooling? For as long as you can keep the computer, or for as long as you pay your electric bills :t :D have some old OC-ed CPUs and they are way over 6+ yrs old, and still kicking. gibsinep 08-23-2002, 10:27 AM Mabey it shortens it to 99 years instead of 100. :p :) AllGamer 08-23-2002, 10:43 AM nah... i bet'ya the years can be Over Cloacked too :D :t from 100y to 150y :p just keep'em in liquid nitrogen  Bigjakkstaffa 08-23-2002, 10:52 AM CPU's have a finite lifespan anyways, so if you do o/c em, you'll prolly find that when they do burn out they will be extremely obsolete, in my choice there is no choice -- OC the mutha ;) --Jakk:t gibsinep 08-23-2002, 10:57 AM Yep, even if it dies in 10 years who cares? $1500-P4 gamer 08-23-2002, 01:26 PM Some may remeber I dug into this a while back. Max temps/vcore etc. on cpu's. Its funny, Intel claims to be a 90year cpu. Sure AMD does too. So if Oclocking reduces the gate life to 10% of original, it now gonna last 9 years. You gonna have it in 9 years? Not me so O'clock it. Or it'll be like my 486 33mhz- a dust collector by then!;) fluffycow 08-23-2002, 02:53 PM Good point.... If it does last about 9 then ill overclock dah fudge outta it. :) gibsinep 08-23-2002, 03:09 PM I wont even have it for 2 years, lol :p AllGamer 08-23-2002, 03:15 PM it's true depending how you OC-ed it, it might not even last you 1 minute :D gibsinep 08-23-2002, 03:20 PM Well yeah if you raise the Voltage to like 3 or somthing. lol OpK Chowdy 08-24-2002, 02:06 AM that's good to know, maybe i should reconsider overclocking my processor back up to 1.6ghz. i mean, 55C isn't THAT hot right? fluffycow 08-24-2002, 02:34 AM Originally posted by AllGamer it's true depending how you OC-ed it, it might not even last you 1 minute :D For 1 minute of 5 gigahertze its worth it :D . Well..... Maybe.... Anyone know where I can buy the agoia y athlon xp? All the places ive found that sell the athlon xp cheap don't mention the stepping. Anyone had an athlon 1600+ thats lasted them a long time overclocked at 2 gigs? gibsinep 08-24-2002, 10:15 AM OpK Chowdy- put that cpu back up to 1.6:) OpK Chowdy 08-24-2002, 04:19 PM lol. i'll do that when the new games come out...doom3, quake4, UT2003....i'll have a ghost of a chance at playing them in playable framerates, so overclocking is my only hope! MY SECRET WEAPON! PS: i'm also overclocking my gf4ti4200 to ti4400 speeds (275/550) gibsinep 08-24-2002, 05:25 PM I really dont think the requirments will hit over 1.2ghz in processor speed for those game, but only time will tell. :t musictoad 08-25-2002, 03:02 PM I dont think u should worry about it because by the time it maybe dies, you have already got a newer cpu and perhaps a better mobo. I am sure the CPU should last as long as 2 years , this is the time u should need t get a new mobo and cpu again. Then again i have been using my 633 overclocked to 790 , and it had lasted me for 2.4 years , so i dont know. Anyways, take care. SysOpt.com
