I am pretty sure what everyone's opinion is about KaZaA and the spyware involved, i.e. Cydoor, but there is a good way to get rid of it. Using Ad-aware, do a deep scan on the registry and scan your hard drive. Get rid of all the stuff that says anything like "Brilliant," "KaZaA," or "Cydoor." You will notice now that you can't load KaZaA because it says it is missing some stuff. Don't worry, not a problem. Just copy and paste this web adress into your browser: http://www.phazeshift.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/files/cd_clint.dll

Download this to your C:/Windows/System32 folder if you have NT or XP, or to C:/Windows/System if you have 95/98.

Now try to launch KaZaA. Problem solved!

I have never even seen Kazaa because when I was researching p2p software I saw it contained spyware and instantly ruled it out. Nothing goes on my computer until ihave all the facts about it. Everything I read about WinMX was positive so I downloaded it. Basically, if you have ever used Napster or Morpheus, you can use WinMX just fine as the interface will look real familiar.

Whats the big deal on Spyware anyway?
Your ISP's log almost all your internet activity, most internet sites log your activity and ip's, on-line help sites often record details about you.
There is spyware all over the internet so lets face it, if you go online, someone is going to be recording who you are, what you look at and what you're doing, you'll never get away from that now, its too powerful a tool for the government and anyone else who wants to keep tabs on people to do so.

The simple question is, what have you got to hide?

I'm fairly convinced that Kazaa lite with its spyware removed is sufficient for me to hide the fact that yeah, maybe I do download quite a few MP3's for free and I don't want someone else knowing who I am/what I do.

But I'm not really that bothered either, if I was stupid enough to visit really dodgy sites and store extremely sensetive/illegal data on the PC I have connected to the internet, in my own home, I deserve to be spied on !!

The real question is whether Spyware actually helps us?
Do internet sites record preferences to make sites better? Or is that just a con, if so, why dont we enforce it?
Does it help catch people operating illegaly or help worm out the real weirdo's or sick people such as peadophiles? Well if it does then I'm all for it !
There's 2 sides to every coin and I just think someone needs to sit down and regulate Spyware instead of just letting any software co's stick it wherever they want.

At the end of the day though, as some people say, you the user have the choice to install the software or not.

Rant over :D

Oh don't worry, I do MUCH more than that . . .that is why I live in a dark room, eat only home grown food vegetables, talk to no-one and exist only on-line !.

MP3's are a format for storing audio.
It is quite highly compressed so songs take up much less space (quicker to download) yet still keep good quality, while remaining completely free just like a giveaway by all the big generous record companies. I think they devised the mp3 format

And one of the most pressed buttons i know reads "Register Later" ;)
