Hey ppl, here's another newbie to the board :)

Anyway, got a few question that maybe you guys can help me out, since I'm rather new to OC.

I've got a 1.4Tbird with the Gigabyte 7DXR board. For some reason though, my cpu idles at around 60c (it has the thermalright slk HS with a sunon 80mm fan & arctic silver 2). Now, could this simply be a faulty temp probe? defect in the chip? or should I try to lap the hell out of the HS? There's gotta be something wrong if my idle temp is almost twice of what everyone seems to have around here :(

On a side note, where can I find info on how to OC a geforce4? what program should I use?

I would take of the heatsink and re-apply it incase you put it on wrong. What other cooling do you have?

My guess is you dont have the heatsink on correctly

To overclock a Geforce 4 you can use powerstrip or coolbits.

( just do a search on google for them):) :t

I've got a few 80mm intake and exhaust fans, but right now I'm just running an open case :P

I'm gonna try to lap the hs today, hopefully it'll work...

The SLK is a pretty good HS, and should work fine with an 80mm Sunon... make sure the air flow direction is ONTO the HS, not drawing air away from the HS.

After lapping, when you reapply the AS-II, put an amount about the size of a half grain of uncooked rice onto the cpu core, spread it around evenly as possible with the point of a clean toothpick. Then install the HS, making sure you don't hang up on the lifted edge of the cpu ceramic socket. AS-II and -III take several hours of "run-in" time before they provide best heat transfer, usually about 20 hours at 100% cpu output, or longer at (mostly) cpu idle... so you should see temps get a little better over a few days use.
