yes is rather simple actually
What you need is like a Brood transfusion
but in XP that is a Registry Transfusion ;)
get someone to export you that registry settings
under Classes
and you only need to import it
and you are done, and fixed.
:D :t

There's a very common worm (magistr) which causes that sort of behavior - especially after it has bee cleaned from the system. Scan that system!

i can assure you no worm/virus swept by, but i am scanning with housecall, updated virus definitions now just to play safe. i recently tried to backup the classes chunk with an old reg backup i did with ERDNT over a month ago, still no work.

Bill might be on the right track
Do you have any AV software?
if not you can visit
www.SARC.com
and run their free one
they have tool to remove the Magistrate also.
all FREE

then ask someone with WinXP to give you a Registry Transfussion, for only that key.

i ask.
i also ask for a simpler way, to give me the name of program used to complete the function.

In the registry, the file type must be defined as "exefile" for .EXE files in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

Do you have TWEAK UI on your system? If so, go to the Repair section and repair System Files and Associations.

Ooh - maybe it's not. The old Tweak had it.
Have you disabled System Restore? If not, try that. You can also repair from CD by booting from it.

The "Repair Associations" button returns icons to their factory settings and restores the default associations for standard file types.
Use this button to repair such common problems as losing the "Install" command on the right-click context menu for .INF files.
This button is not available on Windows NT.
i disabled system restore. wont repairing from the cd re write all the system files i modified, like the logog, boot screen, and of course the beautiful theme, and other things? i would rather have someone using windows xp give me the program reference, as satated in my original reply

No - repairing XP will not change anything. That's called reinstalling. ;)
