My sister wants me to build her a P4 system. She uses the system for word processing, net surfing, a little gaming and a little photo editing. I prefer a board that supports P4 from 1.x up to > 2Gz. I have used Asus, Gigabyte and Intel boards before.and have good experience with all of them, especially ASUS. But there are so many boards to choose from for each vendor that I don't know which one to get. My sister gave me a budget of $500 - $700. I already got a 60 gig HD, a old Enlight case (w 300 W PS).

Just built my wife a P4 using Asus P4S533, which has onboard sound and NIC (cost savings). Using a 1.6A P4 (1.6gHz stock at 100mHz fsb) easily overclocked to 2.134gHz at 133fsb (fsb X 16.0 multiplier).

This combo has been rock steady even with the stock retail cpu HS/F. It's also pretty quick!

With the rest of the money you could get a very good vid card plus all the ram you'd want, and have enough left over for a CD-RW burner to save all those photo edits.
