False Alarm
I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!! I just got an e-mail from Winstar saying my "backorderd" modem has shipped. Why didn't I post this last month?? I would have got it sooner!

How does it go? (from the movie)
"Hell no I won't take it anymore!"
I have had it with Earthlink, most of the time the best connect I get is low 30 something. I get blown off, and usually I can't the data transferring. Sometimes I can "force" it by opening the browser (a few windows) and e-mail and push data into it like CPR and it kicks in, but that's a pain. I am not going to use AOL, that's slow and embarrassing. I have railed against that company for years. The cheap DSL Winfire, (set it up in October and nothing yet) went over like a lead balloon.
The cable company got the kiss of death from me (do we see an anti-social pattern here?) when they were supposed do the install, by getting a little to cocky, like they were the only game in town and I now have a dish.
Is anybody happy with their DSL provider? Where do I find a good connection affordable (< $50)enough to have bucks left over after it's paid so I can pay the electric bill???? Ok maybe an exaggeration but you know what I mean.....

I don't think it really is the ISP that is faulty with the connection on DSL..more like the phone company. I am on Verizon's DSL under Flashcom. I am not happy with flashcom because...well lets see, they went bankrupt! **** turtles! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I use Verizon and a little local guy for my 768/128 static DSL connect (49$ FWS.net) try asking Verizon for a list of providers they work with in your area, ive used this guy for 2 years now without a hitch, he didnt have a prob assisting me in setting up my router either...

tw,
I am in Torrance and I have some info from dslreports.com, just in case any of it might apply for you, I have forwarded a copy to you by mail. If you haven't seen the site you might want to ck it out http://www.dslreports.com
Regarding my Earthlink act, I had the same problems with them at 3 different addresses, with but it was not so bad in Fl as when I dialed Gardena, one thing that did help was to configure my connection manually like back in the "olden" days and get rid of all their AOL style junk.

Cool..I will check it out when I get your email. Thanks!
As for my isp, they are still running, just don't know for how much longer. The part that ticks me off is that they won't let me transfer my account to someone else so that I won't get disconnected for the net. THey said that as long as they are up, no matter if they are bankrupt or not, I am bound to my contract! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif **** contracts..hehe

Ever consider cable modems? @Home in the SF Bay Area doesn't force these stupid contracts on people. Plus a lot of my DSL connected friends and co-workers have many horror stories to share, but my cable connected buddies are practically problem free. I myself chose cable and am happily speeding along.

I really have a problem with their monopoly.
