Hope u folks can show me what I'm screwing up here...

I've got 2 homebuilt boxes hooked together w/ a crossover.

#1 is my online system running win98se,
P2-400,256MB &
D-link DE-528ct nic (which I've had up to 10Mbps in another box)

Sys #2 is a new unit running winXP Pro
P4-2.4, 512MB
on a Gigabyte 8iHXP w/ onboard Realtek RTL8139 LAN

I'm not running ICS on #2, but just on the LAN w/ #1. My transfer rate is a steady 1Mbps. Gone though all the options (including setting each nic to 10Mbps instead of AUTO mode) I could think of to no avail. Checked MS KB, but the only article about slow throughput had to do w/ password protected drives which mine are not (I'm the only user).

Since my D-link will go up to 10Mbps I'd sure like to slip these into high gear. Your help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at a loss at this point.

1 Mbps is about right

what did you expect from your DSL

10 Mbps?

not possible unless you are paying like $1000 a month for your own line.

1.5 Mbps is about the normal

and 800 Kbps is about the Average

at work i get 1.4+ Mbps
at home i get 1.6+ Mbps

here test yours here.

Like AG said, you would only expect 10Mbps from your internal network. 1mbps is pretty good for DSL.

Yikes!..I wish I got those speeds for my online connection...the most I get outta my 56k modem is 44k!!

Sorry for the mixup here folks...I'm talkng about my LAN thoughput. It should be 10Mbps not 1.

Plan B anyone?
TIA

Is this Mb or MB? 1 MB(yte)= 8Mb(it) and is about right for a 10Base-T LAN.

NetPerSec by PCmag, it's free in their utility section....greatest thing since sliced bread! Measures both u'r online & LAN speeds in MB & Mb ..which brings us to.........

I think u got it! Looking at the manual of the nic it says it has a "10 Mbps data transfer rate" & shows it's a 10BASE T-/BNC model.

I have another NIC but it's an ISA card. It's manual says it's a 10/100BASE-TX. Using u'r explanation, I guess that would give me a 10 fold increase in my present transfer speed,i.e., 10 Mega Bytes p/sec. Am I correct in my thinking ?

Thanks for the help

Yes - dump the 10Mb NIC for another 10/100.
