it requires a new partition and format

go to find DISK MANAGEMENT option in Windows, and you are set.

you'll need to at least go into fdisk and create a new partition on the new drive. you can run the format command or format from windows after that. if you had win2k or xp, then you could use disk management.

so i guess you've never installed a Fresh HDD without using FDISK in WinNt/2k/XP, eh?

you don't need that

Disk Management will take care of all that.

Ooooops!

so i guess we're both wrong then

Win98 doesn't have DISK MANAGEMENT, only NT/2k and XP

yeah you'll have to fall back to use the same old same old FDISK create partition
then format in Win98, for a super fast format.

if you have 2 hard drives, you will have to switch to the second one. press 5 to do that. then you need to create at least 1 partition. press 1 to create a new partition. press 1 again to create a primary partition. if you want just 1 partition, then choose to use all the space. let it do its business. then get out of fdisk and reboot to windows. you should see a drive D: (or E: or whatever) in "my computer". right click on the new drive and click format. that's about it. you can format from dos too, but it takes longer.

sounds like your bios can't support drives larger than 32gb. did you update your bios to the latest version? your only other options are to use ezbios (yuck) or get another ide controller card that supports larger drives. check for a bios update first.

That's kinda weird. Your board is pretty new. oh well. here's the website to get your bios:

another reason can be that STP72, set the jumpers on the HDD to not go over 40 gig.

all new HDD greater than 40 gigs has that option to make it compatible with old BIOS
