i just downloaded the 3dmark2001se benchmark util and ran it before rebooting my system which had been on all day. it registered around a 8500ish score both times i ran it.

then i rebooted and i cant get o er 3500

im running windows xp
amd 1800+
256mb pc2100 ddr
40 gb 7200
ati radeon 8500 le 128mb

You may have AV running in the back ground or start up apps at first boot still running ....that may have been through running when you downloaded your program.

good suggestion but my system is very minimal. as in i dont have anything start up that doesnt need to. including resources, not just programs. so i dunno. ill try it again later but i just think that is really strange for it to take such a huge dive.

from what ive seen with my own system the vid card should not perform as well as the others. i know its a 250/200ddr card. i guess its a skimpy oem version. i tried overclocking it but that didnt help that much. i tried running gta 3 with it and even on the lowest video settings it still lags horribly. not what i expected to get at all out of this card. it doesnt seem like all the benchmark sites ive seen had any kind of experiences like this at all

have you properly updated the drivers for it because I my friend usues a radoen 8500LE 64ddr with a system close to yours and gets around 8000

im running the catalyst 2.2...maybe ill try reinstalling them..

i have a similar system and my 8500 is getting me 7371, with Catalyst 2.2

ok i just reinstalled the drivers... 7300 with default vid card settings. i just tweaked them a bit....awaiting outcome...

i wish my memory wasnt clocked at freakin 200 tho. the highest i can overclock it without getting artifacts is around 220/440

apparently i didnt tweak them too well...got a 7205 lol....setting back ot the defaults and then overclocking :) :)

set vid card settings back to default and overclocked to 280/220 ddr....7523....hows all this sounding to you guys? normal?

overclocked it to 290/225 - only got a 7581....should i be rebooting after every test? cuz it doesnt seem like much of an improvement

well just restared the system and did it...7600 even..not bad i guess. tho i probably shouldnt be overclocking it that much

My Scores, are DEFAULT ALL settings.

all Stock, nothing changed

Hmm in Madonion Ati Radeon 8500 can score up to 8000+...
