Can't get Internet Connection Sharing to work over Laplink USB networking cable. Using LapLink 11.3 on Host computer with XP Pro, 11.0 on Client (Dell Inspiron 7200 Laptop, 500MhzP3) with Win98se, connected with new gold USB cable. USB networking seems to be working. Can connect and transfer files over Laplink. Can ping each computer from other. Winipcfg shows correct gateway values and ip addresses. See both computers in Network neighborhood in both computers.
Ran XP setup for ICS on Host, and used setup disk created on host to configure laptop. See "Internet Gateway Connected" status icon on laptop raskbar. Have "never dial connection" set in IE 5.5 on laptop, "automatically configure IP address" disabled. In netowrking, have Use DHCS for WINS Resolution enabled, DNS disabled, no gateway defined (tried it with 192.168.0.1 defined also). But I cannot get to internet pages on laptop. Any suggestions?

Had similar problems myself - the general solution was to fiddle aboutuntil it worked and then as the old saying goes "if it aint broke..."
You may wanna check out www.practicallynetworked.com as they have in depth tutorials and walk you hand by hand through all imaginable steps and troubleshooting :)

What exactly did you "fiddle" with to get it to work?!
I've been through everything i could find on practicallynetworked and microsoft sites. Laptop just doesn't seem to want to get the internet. It pings to the host desktop, but not to an internet address.
Would it help if I installed IE 6 over Win98se on laptop? I don't want to do this unless it's necessary and I know it's going to work.

As im not to hot on networking, i left DHCP and WINS stuff well alone, but i did klike you, gave the gateway as the IP of the host, it may also be worht a bash settign up the client to autodetect all of its settings, also try several ip adresses not just 192.168.0.2 for the client, as this once resolved a problem i had and make sure both machines have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
Happy hunting - report back if all goes well or otherwise :)

PS can you get it to connect to external sources, eg MSN or similar, but not to web sources?? This would suggest your browser is at fault, make sure you have cleared the auto detect proxy stuff under the browser options in IE...

Your not running a software firewall at all are you btw?
If so try disabling it on the host and then starting up the client and see if you can get erm to see each other that away...
