Most people agree that Plextor makes some of the best burners around. I have the older 32/8/4 and it works great. The faster ones have burn proof technology, which means many less costers. The new drivers are 40/16/10 and can burn a CD is less than 5 mintues. Others say HP drivers are also good, but I have not had much experience with them.

I would agree that Plextor makes the best burners currently available, but they do tend to get pricey. If you can't afford that, I would reccomend that you go with an HP burner. I have one personally, and it has never failed me.

hewlet packard has had some of thier models on sale at real good prices lately. they make good burners, but if you don't mind spending more, you could go with a plextor writer. your choice.

I'd say to go for a Plextor, burn-proof or not! I haven't seen too many unhappy Plextor users, have you? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

I'm currently using a Plextor 8/4/32 on my system without Burn-Proof-Technology, and it's quite burn-proof, alright! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

If you're tight on money, go to Circuit City and get a Pacific Digital 4x4x24x for $70! It's a Mitsumi device and comes with 10 CD-R discs and Adaptec 4.0 EZ CD Creator. It's slow by today's standards, but it's reliable as all. It'll copy anything!!

I just picked up a HP-9350i from OfficeMax for $99.95 and it is really nice. It is a 10x4x32 drive and is a snap to install and configure. It includes Adaptec Easy CD Creator software and even has a video clip of installation on the CD for inexperienced upgraders. I know the Plextor is the "sacred cow" of CD Burners, but the HP sure seems like a solid unit to me.

Yes, Plextor or Yamaha - if you have the money.

If I recall correctly, I believe the TDK is actually a Plextor with a different case. I also believe it is cheaper than the Plextor, so if you are not looking to have a certain name grace the front of your computer, you are better off with the TDK.

This thread grabbed my attention because I'm looking to buy a new CD Writer. The one I was thinking of was A Mirai 32x 12x 10x model with BURN-proof technology. It has essentially the same spec as the Plextor equivalent but it is slightly cheaper. Does anyone have any experience of Mirai products? Are they any good? And what about BURN-proof technology - does it work?

Any feedback would be appreciated! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Not sure about Mirai, but i've got the Plextor you were talking about (12,10,32) with burnproof technology and it hasn't burnt any coasters yet (made about 40 cd's)so i'd say it works pretty well http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
