I have a supermicro SUPER P4SBA, 1.6gb pentium 4, Tornado geforce 2 64mb, 512mb Pc-133 SDRAM, Creative 8432e CDR/W, Toshibe DVD ROM, Scan case with 2 fans.

I am getting a siren type alert when the system has been on for a while as well as just prior to the bios loading on reboot. While the sound is on the PC slows, it lasts for anything between 5 - 20 secs before stopping and returning to normal. My case ony had one fan and i thought it may be a heat issue so I added the second fan with no difference. I think it may be Video card related as the alarms for the M/B have no alarm description that match the sound. It is really starting to get to me....
Any ideas gratefully received chaps

"Siren" alarm means only ONE thing - CPU overheating !
Pentium 4 throttles down, cooling itself at lower speed then goes back to normal, heats a little then goes into the loop for another time
Get yourself a decent CPU HS/F.

I have a coolermasterheatsink & fan and a pucker intel p4 1.6Ghz CPU installed with the paste. I looked at the manual for the M/B and there are error beep codes but, nothing that matches a siren type sound, Could it be the Graphics card ? I tried to take the lid of and hear where the beeping was coming from but it has stopped now. My modem card was in the PCI slot right next to it so I have moved it away. I will let you know if it comes back again, which it probably will !!:( :( :( :( :( :( :(

When this happened to me I took the heatsink apart and found huge amount of dust. Cleaned it and siren went away.

I have installed 2 mother board monitors and niether is reporting back any failures in temp or voltage. I only have a 250W supply, could this be power related maybe ?????

I will try and clean out the heatsink of dust as well but, I am well and truly stumped !!!!!

HEAT! the temperature alarm threshold may be set too low in the BIOS and triggering the alarm too early, failing that there could be insufficient power for a stable clock speed and it's throttling back.

What temp is being reported?

yup, either you need a better FAN, or your case needs more ventilation.

try sticking the lose wires around.

look at adding a few case fans to help with the air flow

use 5.25" bay drives with cooling fans.

etc. :t

The poxy clip holding down the CPU was not tight enough resulting in the CPU paste drying out and hey presto the CPU throttling back and then going into alarm. I have put some more paste on the CPU and used some plastic to make the pathetic clip sit down properly and have been up and running for a month or so without any further issues.....
Thanks for all the help guys
