6197 members on this board...where are they?

every time i log on to here the number has gone up by a dozen or so...where are they? there must be at most 200 or so regular members, so i am just wondering where the other 6000 or so members are.....

I got discouraged too when some of my questions didnt get answered when I first joined. Just shoot them back up to the top...because, with over 6000 members, someone will eventually get you the answer...good luck in the future.

Yes, Jimmy, sorry about you not getting a reply before. Like chipbgt said, it's quite alright to reply to your own thread after a day or so if you haven't received a reply, giving more info if you can. At least it will bring back to the top where it's more visible.

Another thing to keep in mind is to give as much detail to your problem as you can, and list what your system specs are and what OS you're running. The more specific you are, the more it helps us to help you.

deep_sky, I've wondered about that myself, why would people register if they are not going to make at least one post? Only a few months ago, I remember it breaking 5000 and I don't think I've seen 1196 (or7) posts by new members. Do you think that many people just want to reserve a name? Hmmmmmm.

I must admit that I frequent another board more often, but I come here at least once a day. You guys here help me out quicker and most of the time give the better advice - and I'm not just saying that. It's just that I started there and just "hang out" there moreso than this board.

One suggestion though... some other UBBs have user information such as FROM: and POSTS: (count) under their username in the threads... why don't we have that here ? I'm aware of clicking the little icon for user profiles, but if others have it, why don't we ?

Because others have a newer version of UBB. We haven't upgraded for several reasons, not the least of which was that Earthweb had planned for years/decades/millenia to build their own forum software in-house... and kept promising that it would be the Holy Grail of forum software.

Obviously, that isn't happening anymore. However, upgrading is still a non-trivial task, and so Scott hasn't attempted it yet.
