I don't know anything about webpage development. I want to learn and to get my son started.

Are there good tools that don't require code to be punched in?

You are wanting to connect a webpage to a database?
To be honest the best way to do it is by hard-coding it - it is much better than trying to get a prog to it for you.

Failing that try something like Macromedia UltraDev - meant to be quite good.

Who doesn't?

Try, this, it's free:

www.geocities.com

it's yahoo sponsored, so expect ads/popups.

it's yahoo sponsored, so expect easy html interface.

showed me Dar, how to:
download pics from dig cam to PC, oops not part of www.geocites.com experience...
Create www.geocites.com account. back on track...
He then!
used pics from camera to create "webpage" on new www.geocites.com account.
He liked the graphics choices, too.

He hasn't been able to do since...

Moral:
Get him started on what you know and are passionate about.
Teach him, as best you can.
DON'T try to teach him what you don't know about.

Hi there.

Oki, I see this question, or similar ones, all the time in
this forum. And I'll allways gives the same reply.
If you dont know HTML, and want to build a website
and LEARN something, DONT use the what-you-see-is-what-you-get editors. Learn to write the language! Its easy, (and i mean
EASY!), and you will very fast see the results of the programming.
If your kid is going to learn this too, why should he be taught
that its best to take the shortcut, and not learning it
properly. (Sorry about the tone, but I have seen so many
crappy sites out there that someone has made using those
programs....brrrrr... *shrugs*).

Well, you can find a lot of tutorials on the net.
Search for ' html tutorial ', 'html help' , ' web tutorial ' etc,
or you could pay a visit to www.webmonkey.com and check
out their tutorial section.

Yepp, those where my 2 cents of thoughts.

C'ya around
Gobi.

learn HTML (see http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/Guide/ ). Tis will give you a starter guide and links to more advanced.
Once you got this going, there are all sorts of advanced languages and techniques. :p

My children learnt html easily when they were 8 and 11 years old respectively. Teach your son the basics and let him take it from there...
Or, FrontPage 2002 is always useful if you know the basics but want that extra bit of help. Learn as you go!

Cheers,

I agree that you should html first, later if you use an editor you can then tweak their code to get what you want (usually always a must). I would recommend Dreamweaver mx and the whole macromedia product line great tutorials and help files. To have good graphics and design one must first be a good designer and this is where being somewhat artistic will come in. There are a number of books and web site that will give you the basics of good design. You can also take online classes for around one hundred bucks that will teach you html, javascript, and how to use some of the graphics programs from a local college.
