anyhoo, there doesn't seem to be much of them around anymore. i was looking for a Socket A motherboard, that takes SDRAM and having an ISA slot would be nice (for my lovely AWE64 sound card :D) also four ram slots would be handy too for all the sdram i get given nowadays. :)
The only one i could actually find was the Epox 8KTA3 RAID but it's rather pricy, i was wanting to know if any of you know of any other good SocketA SDRAM motherboards on any websites like scan or ebuyer etc (UK) and tell me what you think of them.
Thanks for you help, hopefuly ;)

Well, you could hunt around for old technology, or you could use this mobo upgrade opportunity to upgrade to DDR. Some goes for the ISA slot requirement. The fact is even if you find one it won't be the best you could have gotten if you had dropped the SDRAM / ISA requirement. There are a few boards which I believe are still available that support both SDRAM and DDR, but again they are not the best socket A boards out there right now.

well i'm basically doing an upgrade to an old computer :)
i'm getting a free processor and i dont' really want to be buying a new sound card and ram. I already have a machine that uses DDR anyway.

And AllGamer thanks the ABIT KT7A looks good enough, i'll try and find somewhere to buy it so i can get a price :)

this board cost me 59.99 at a store, it supports up to Athlon XP 1900, runs well for me

KT7A would be a great choice, using one here, but be sure to get version 1.3, as ONLY version 1.3 supports Athlon XP processors !!!

The last 2 mobos listed has no ISA

he specified to have ISA along all those other options.

hey, thanks guys for all the help :D
now all i need is somewhere to buy a motherboard from, i could go into town (they ususally have a load of old stuff) but i'd rather buy it from an online store.
Anyone know anywhere that sells the KT7A ?
Thanks again guys :t

well... i think i may have to end up going for the EPOX 8KTA3 RAID (http://web6.scan.co.uk/Products/Info.asp?WPID=5707) ... becuase it's the only one i can find that isn't made by PC Chips or Chaintech :)

Check out the Iwill KK266+. I have my old Courier I-Modem isdn card in the ISA slot (no DSL or cable available). It's a great board. Has been very stable, and comes with C-Media sound which you can use instead of Sound Blaster (sounds as good as sb live, don't know about audigy). Use this forum and others (http://www.amdforums.com/) for setup instructions/help that will help avoid IRQ and other problems sometimes associated with VIA chipset boards.

anyway (after my other topic magically disapearing  ) i was wanting to know what you thought of this board ECS K7S5A2 (http://www.ecs.com.tw/products/k7s5a2.htm) how does it compair to the Abit KT7A, it has the advantages of both DDR and SDR, which seems good to me.
Thanks guys...

I'd use the K7S5A, not the K7S5A2. The "2" one is a non-mainstream version that doesn't get the frequent maintenance BIOS updates the plain K7S5A gets.

thanks Pete, i was wondering if they still made the K7S5A as when i was looking around onlie stores (ebuyer.com in this case) i could only find the K7S5A2. Also that Abit is quite hard to find too, prehaps a walk around town i might find it, they usualy have older hardware liek that.

They're still selling heaps of K7S5A where I live. Sure it isn't the latest board, but it's still very popular.

And very s****y one, too :(
Just look how many threads were opened asking for troubleshooting where K7S5A is involved

Agreed, i'd rather stick with a known good board like the Abit KT7A

It took a bit of effort to get it running but once it ran it was quick and stable especially for the price at that time. Now I'd say it's probably not worth the effort.

Incase your wondering why i'm not running it anymore.... I was changine the heatsink and killed the board with a screwdriver:( .

Ah yes, AllGamer, you're the expert  Figure this: Question: How many K7S5A have been sold over the past year? Answer: Tens of millions. This is the best selling single mainboard EVER. Now do the math and ask yourself again why so many people have questions about it - it's simply because so many people have it.

huh ?!?!?!

I don't know how many people had a hard time updating the bios with the ECS K7s5a? Also my board only runs well with crucial ram? It runs with my other ram but freezes once a day. I just had a hard time locating my problem. Also back then many people have 250watt ps which didnt' work well with this board.

I bought it when it first came out but maybe the new bios now fix alot of the problems.
