I just started using EZCD4.0. I have downloaded the MP3's I'd like to burn. When I run EZCC Audio CD Creator, it doesn't see any audio files. It says "There are no audio files in this folder". When, in fact, there are about 20 .mp3 files. They are associated with Sonique (an audio player). I'm a newbie at this...can anyone help?

Thanks,
-b

the mp3's might have to be decompressed to .wav files before ezcd can see them. go to download.com and get an app to do it.
if they have a file extension that sonique put on them other then .mp3 or .wav try to decompress anyway.=]

if u dont know what all the file extentions mean read up on it in their(download.com)mp3 section you'l find newbe info there i think.

I use EZCD 4.02 and I just use "Data" from the main menu and it sees the MP3 files just fine......

According to EZCD on-line help and magazine articles (maximum pc), EZCD automatically converts MP3's on the fly when creating an audio CD. But, it appears this isn't true for some reason. Is this because I have the EZCD software that came WITH the CDRW drive? Do I have to purchase retail software (the deluxe version)??

NDC - MP3 files are considered data files. So, creating a data cd....EZCD would see these files. But, I'm trying to create an audio cd that will play on all CD players. Uggh.

JackAndCoke - Yes, once I converted one of my MP3 files to .WAV EZCD creator audio did recognize the file. I'm frustrated -- it appears I have to 'buy' retail sofware to have MP3's converted on the fly. Otherwise, I'll have to manually convert all my MP3's to .WAV files before burning. This is valuable hard disk space.

Thanks,
Brian

Sorry about the misundestanding.

Well, I just tried it using "Audio" from the menu and it still sees the MP3 files. Am I doing something different from what you're doing?

NDC - Hmmmm. Did you purhcase EZCD or did it come with your CDRW drive? This is the only thing I can think of.

I posted a message on a newsgroup and was told I had to convert my MP3's to WAV files as well. Of course, I then asked 'why' didn't my EZCD software do this on the fly as I've read. I haven't received a reply yet.

If your EZCD came with your drive, then I'm puzzled. I wonder if there is a 'switch' somewhere that needs to be configured. Again, I looked in the help files, but found nothing about a switch or any info on this issue.

Yes, this is a bundled version that I have, it is not the retail version "EZCD Deluxe".

Could there be a possibility that it's not working because it's not version 4.02? What version do you have exactly?

NDC - I'm not sure where to turn next in that case. I'm using v4.03a (downloaded update from roxio.com). There must be a switch somewhere if you have the bundled software as well and your EZCD software does see MP3 files when you go into 'Audio CD'.

If anyone has any ideas please let us know.

I believe I figured it out. By default, EZCD is setup to only show CDDA and WAV files only. If you go to VIEW / SHOW FILES / ...and select 'All Files' all audo file formats supported (i.e. MP3's !!) will show up.

It figures that it was something as simple as a VIEW option. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm learning...slowly but surely.

Thanks - Brian

Well, mine is set to show only "CDDA Tracks and Audio files Only", not "All Files" but it still shows the MP3 files. Whatever the case, as long as you got your problem solved, I guess that's all that matters! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks, Woodcycl!

Well, as I attempted to ADD files to my layout, I realized that I have not figured out the whole problem. Since my MP3 files are associated with an Audio player (winamp or Sonique), EZCD doesn't see the actual .mp3 extension. It tells me to select a file with a WAV or MP3 extension. However, my extensions are .mp3.

Does anyone know how to address this problem. Doesn't just about everyone use some type of Audio player (RealPlayer, Winamp, MusicMatch Jukebox, Sonique, etc.) to play their WAV and MP3 files? And, if so, how come EZCD doesn't recognize the WAV and MP3 files associated with such players??

Still plugging away. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Not sure, sounds as if your files aren't really an mp3 format ezcd recongnizes. Perhaps Sonique has "tagged" them that way? If you can, try converting one of 'em to wav and see what ezcd does with that one.

Jeff Cooke from the newsgroup comp.publish.cdrom.software provided the info necessary to address my problem. He found it on Roxio's knowlegebase page (I don't have access since my EZCD is bundled - uggh!).
Here was the fix:
*******************************
Why doesn't Easy CD Creator detect my MP3s as valid audio files ? (Article
Number000822-0001)

Description:

Easy CD Creator fails to recognize my MP3 files as being valid audio files.

When opening an Audio CD Layout in Easy CD Creator and browsing to a directly that contains MP3 files, the program reports: "There are no audio files in this folder."

Also, if you try to drag an MP3 file into an Audio Layout, a warning message may be displayed indicating : "The MyFile.MP3 has an unrecognized file extension. Valid extensions are .WAV and .MP3. Please select a files with a .WAV or .MP3 file extension."

This information applies to the following product(s):

- Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4.x Suite

This information applies to the following Operating System(s):

-Windows 95
-Windows 98
-Windows NT 4
-Windows 2000

Solution:

In Windows 95/98/NT 4, go to Start->Control Panel ->Multimedia->Devices and expand the Audio Compression Codecs.

In Windows 2000, go to Start->Control Panel ->Sound & Multimedia->Hardware, double-click on the Audio Codecs entry and then click on the Properties tab.

In either of the operating systems, look for an entry for Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec. If the entry is missing, skip to the next paragraph. Otherwise, double-click on the entry and then choose the About button,
ensure that you are using version 1.9 or later. If the Fraunhofer entry is an earlier version than 1.9, then remove it.

Search for any files on your drive that match L3*.ACM and rename them to a different extension, such as .OLD, then reinstall your copy of Easy CD Creator.

Your MP3 files should be recognized properly after the reinstall.
***********************************

I 'definitely' would not have figured this one out given the above fix. But, I am now able to drag/drop my .mp3 files and EZCD recognizes them as audio files.

Thanks to everyone who replied.
