my problem is.... I have a laptop that has ME and I have a desktop that has XP. My problem is that I use both of them for work, and I cannot get them to talk to each other. Meaning the information I have on my ME I cannot open or when it opens on XP it's in symbols. Any ideas how this can be fixed???

you are correct in finding that not all OS's treat files the same way. I don't know what versions of Word you are using and/or what file format you are saving them in but what I would suggest is save as plain-text, or rich-text. You might lose some formatting but the files will be readable. Might want to look at MS's website to see about MS Word compatability between ME and XP.
