I'm buying a RAID card off a mate cheap.

I have 2 PC's:

1.Used for downloading from internet 24/7 with 3x20Gb HDD's and a 4Gb HDD.
2.Used for games/Video Editing with one 80Gb HDD

Which PC should i stick the RAID card in (bearing in mind I have the money to buy another drive to even things up in either PC - eg a 20Gb in PC1 or an 80Gb in PC2)

So would it be better to have as resiliance against a failure in PC 1 with 4 x 20Gb HDD's . . .

OR

For better performance with 2 x 80Gb HDD's in PC2

I'll go with PC combo #1
that way you wont have to spend extra Money.

and when it comes to RAID, there's no such thing as performance, RAID is build in mind for File Serving and stuff, not for Games and things like that, it works, just it wasn't design with Games in mind.

What kind of Raid is it; SCSI or IDE?

I would go for Peformence for Video Editing!

PC-1 is for Downloading is that correct? What about using some streaming media backup?

IDE RAID, sorry I didn't mention that !

Thing is if I do it on PC1 for fault tollerance, I already back all the stuff thats important up and the rest of the stuff I dont mind losing. It would just be like an extra safety net.

What other configurations do you guys think could work best with the HDD's I have.
I ONLY use PC1 for downloading stuff and I suppose the 3 HDD's could be in PC2 and just stick a smaller HDD into PC1 because once something finishes downloading I move it off or burn it to CD anyway.

Decisions decisions :D

difficult...
I would go for one 80Gb Harddisk, its more for Your money!
Video editing needs alot of Space anyway.

Keep in mind that all Disks in an Raid must be the same Model!

No,no,The discs don't have to be the same model, but the capacity is critical. The RAID rcognizes the smallest disc in the array as the maximum. So if you have a 80G and a 20G HDD in a striped array, you will end up with 40G total(losing 60G). You will get the same 40G out of 2 20G drives.
