I'm a newbie to CD burning. With my Teac 4/4/32 drive came Easy CD Creator 4.0 (ECC4). I updated to the latest and greatest patch level as well.

My question is regarding CD recordable media. I have both CDR's and CDRW's. I would like to backup my data files every Friday evening by using the CD Layout features. Also, I would like to 'rewrite' the layout to the same CDRW disk each Friday evening as opposed to burning a new CDR each time and wasting media. However, I have yet to figure out how to 'rewrite'. I've read ALL the on-line help information and have read several hours worth of material on-line. But, I haven't been able to find the easy answer to this simple question. Can anyone help?

It appears I would need to not only leave the CD open, but also leave the session open??? I'm unable to leave the session open - that option (the radio button) is grayed out when using Track at Once.

Thus far, I've 'erased' the previous weeks burn and then wrote to the same cd. But, this takes an extra 30 minutes or so.

Any help is appreciated.

Brian

How much data are you backing? Try using Direct CD, the packet writing program of Adaptec. Leave the disc open.

RayH: I am backing up 400mb to one CDRW w/ my data files. And, another 450mb of my PICs to another CDRW. I tried using Direct CD, but there seemed to be restrictions on how the CD can be read/used when using this type of burn. Also, there didn't seem to be a way of configuring a set of folders/files to store to the CD each time (much like the CD layout feature). This type of feature is beneficial to me so I can choose my target files quickly since they are in so many different places (bookmark file, outlook express .dbx files, game save files, my documents, etc.)

I still do not use the cdrw stuff yet for my back-ups. I have been told it is un-reliable. I just use regular cdr's. They are so cheap that I wouldn't worry about wasting media. My back-ups are done in just a few minutes. I have all my programs save to folder in the my Documents folder. My wife and kids all have their own folders in the my docs folder and always save there stuff there. Then Once a week I stick a cdr disk that is already formatted for the Direct CD option into my burner. I open it, creat a new folder with the current date as the name. Open my "C" drive and right hand click and drag the My Documents folder into the new folder I just created. Select Copy here, and I am backed up for another week.
