plz help me.My comp crashed so I reloaded win 98 but now my sound doesn't work and neither does my scanner.I have lost the driver for my Umax 1220p scanner and dont know the make of my sound card which is on my motherboard.I have tried everything I know but still nothing works.Thanks everyone.:t

Do you at least own the manual for your sound card or an old disk or something?

you can get new drivers for the scanner from www.umax.com

thx for the reply but the answer is no I dont have any disks for my sound card, and I have tried umax for the driver and none of them seem to work.:t

what is the make and model of your motherboard? if it has onboard sound, go to the manufacturer's website to download the drivers.
uninstall and then reinstall the scanner software. is the software installing, but not detecting the scanner? check your parallel port settings too.

thx I will try the motherboard advice.The drivers do install but they still dont work so I will check the ports.:t

IF i'm not mistaken you will have either SIS or SoundMAX for the build in sound card.

those are the 2 not regonized by Windblows.

AC97 and SB and others similar they are always regonized.

I would suggest that you disable the onboard sound and install a Sound Blaster or Turtle Beach card. These items are not very expensive these days.
