Hello Forum,

In the past, I have always gone to retail stores like CompUSA, Staples, and Best Buy for my computer needs. However, when I started researching online at places like www.pricewatch.com, I found HUGE differences in the price online vs. retail. There are a few sites like newegg.com, tigerdirect.com and mwave.com that are well trusted, I believe. But I am not so sure about any of the numerous other internet companies. Companies like Accubyte and PC Chips are common at pricewatch. I almost never see noticeable "name brand" companies that I KNOW I can trust to send credit card information and recieve good customer support, products aren't banged up when they arrive, etc. I just need to know a sort of list of places where it is recommended to shop, and a list of places where it is not recommended to shop, along with justification.

Thanks,
Greg- :t

ditto on MICROPRO.COM!!!
However goto pricewatch first and find something that MICROPRO is selling, click the link to "buy online" this will access the site with DIFFERENT PRICES THAN IF YOU JUST GO THE SITE NORMALLY!!! It saves alot of time searching through pricewatch for the best price, because they will match the lowest.

the reason why they have a difference in prices is because sites as pricewatch are generally used items.

Not sure if thats true..

I have bought from a couple of retailers through pricewatch and got a hell of a deal and they were brandnew.. OEM, none the less, they were new

it is true that there is some used and refurb stuff

Cheapest place I've found is here (http://www.computergate.com) I've dealt with them a few times before. Good service, fast delivery and reputable. Drawbacks: their warranties s**k. Be sure to do some homework on manufacturer warranty before buying. If it's backed by the manufacturer then your O.K.

I like TCWOcheck here (http://www.tcwo.com/) . I have always recieved great service and great prices. Ebay is cool too for awsome deals at times but expect delays while auctions end and longer shipping waits. Recently I bought a Calcomp Ultra Slate for $27.50, a Smartmedia card reader/writer for $7.50, a 40x cdrom for $10.50, a new 64MB Smartmedia card for $14.00 and all were in great shape and new or like new. I bought a nice new case, 450 watt PSU and M830LR mother board w/1 year warrenty for $61.00. You wont find deals like this on any .com retail sites. :)

I have used pricewatch also, saves a lot of time searching. I've recently purchased a Duron cpu from TCWO and a video card from 3bTech using pricewatch and both provided excellent service. The only mistake was from 3bTech, I'd ordered a a retail version card and they sent an OEM by mistake. I called them immediately and their response was great. Issued a RMA and was going to pay shipping, instead I decided to keep it and they immediately refunded the cost difference, a savings of about $12.00 from OEM to retail. The only difference in the to was the fancy box on the retail one.
As for eBay, watch closely I've seen that many times by the time you add S/H you could have paid more than full retail. There are still bargains to be had!

I just recently sent back some corsair ram that didn't have the sticker on the heat spreaders. At first they sent it back to me telling me that they couldn't waranty it, but then I called them and told them that it wasn't printed anywhere that WARANTY VOID IF REMOVED and with a little arguing they made good with the waranty.
