I am having a problem with my DSL installation. After waiting for over a month, I was informed by my phone company (and ISP) that my house was ready for DSL. My modem, on the other hand, does not detect a signal. The phone company tells me that my alarm system is interfering, and that I need to install a filter. Can anyone explain this to me? Also, where can I find such a filter?

Yeah, I have heard of some alarm systems interferring with dsl connections. Some thing about giving off static. The filter that they are talking about it probably the line filter that they should have provided you with. It's weird that they would say this though because the filter is supposed to split the dsl signal from the regular phone signals so that when you talk on the phone, you don't hear the dsl, but if you install it on the line going to your modem, you are just blocking out all the dsl signals. Call them back and have someone come out to fix it, or ask them specifically where and what the filter is and how you are supposed to get one.
